TECHNICAL SUPPORT SCIENTIST

We are recruiting for a Technical Support Scientist to join the Alba Product Development & Support team based at our ARC site near Penicuik, EH26 0BF. This role is a full-time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The role of the Technical Support Scientist involves supporting the department by performing testing and investigations, assisting with the stability programme, and contributing to the efficient execution of technical tasks. The role also participates in continuous process improvement and ensures compliance with departmental and regulatory standards. Support is provided for technical enquiries, customer complaints, and product evaluations under the guidance of senior team members.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct testing of raw materials, intermediate and final products to support technical enquiries and customer complaints.
  • Assist in the preparation and testing of samples for the stability programme, ensuring accurate and timely documentation in line with Good Documentation Practice.
  • Contribute to the review and update of SOPs to ensure compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Support validation activities, product performance evaluations and suggest improvements to testing methods or product design.
  • Assist in the preparation of clear and accurate technical documentation and scientific reports.
  • Support product field trials and evaluation activities under supervision.
  • Participate in departmental training and cross-functional support as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & BEHAVIOURS REQUIRED:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in a scientific discipline.
  • Experience with basic laboratory techniques, including blood group serology.
  • Good understanding of methodologies such as the tube technique.
  • Ability to accurately document and analyse laboratory data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and adaptable with a collaborative mindset.
