SENIOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT SCIENTIST

We are recruiting for a Senior Technical Support Scientist to join the Alba Product Development & Support team based at our ARC site near Penicuik, EH26 0BF. This role is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday.

The role of the Senior Technical Support Scientist involves conducting advanced testing and investigations, assisting with the coordination of the stability programme, and mentoring junior staff. The role contributes to the execution of technical projects and the implementation of departmental initiatives. The role also participates in continuous improvement and ensures compliance with both internal and external standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform analytical testing to support technical investigations and resolve customer complaints.
  • Coordinate and monitor global stability studies, ensuring adherence to schedules and documentation standards.
  • Review and update SOPs, aligning documentation with regulatory expectations.
  • Lead validation and product evaluation studies, driving improvements in test methods and outcomes.
  • Prepare and review scientific documentation and customer-facing technical reports.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior team members in accordance with departmental frameworks.
  • Support field evaluations and product trials.
  • Drive departmental and management-led initiatives to completion.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and logs are accurately completed in compliance with GLP.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory issues in collaboration with colleagues and management.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & BEHAVIOURS REQUIRED

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in blood group serology and laboratory environments operating under GMP or clinical conditions.
  • Background in supervising, mentoring or training junior team members.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques (e.g. tube, CAT) and regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled in data analysis, technical writing, and using standard IT tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex technical information to various audiences.
