New Product Alliances & Innovation Lead
We are recruiting for a New Product Alliances & Innovation Lead to join and lead our Non-Core product Research & Development team based at our ARC site near Penicuik, EH26 0BF. This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
This role is responsible for leading, managing, and providing scientific and strategic direction across select product and process development relating to Alba development pipeline. The successful candidate will ensure activities are delivered in line with operational objectives, statutory and regulatory requirements, and GMP principles, supporting products marketed globally.
The role will involve close collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and external partners, with accountability for delivering projects to agreed timelines, quality standards, and business objectives.
In addition to supporting and expanding our current portfolio, this position will play a key role in driving innovation and identifying new product opportunities aligned to our Horizons 2 and 3 growth initiatives.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Lead product and process development activities for Alba products, ensuring customer needs, strategic objectives, and performance targets are achieved.
- Provide scientific expertise in assay development, product validation, product requirement definition, verification, and regulatory submission activities.
- Lead and manage complex new product development projects, working collaboratively with Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial teams to resolve technical and scientific challenges and drive continuous improvement.
- Analyse and interpret complex scientific and technical data sets, producing high-quality reports and documentation to support regulatory approvals and project decision-making.
- Qualify innovation initiatives, identifying and evaluating new technologies, partnerships, and product opportunities aligned with future business growth strategies.
- Lead technical reviews, scientific workshops, and knowledge-sharing activities across departments to support effective problem-solving and cross-functional alignment.
- Ensure effective transfer of products and processes from feasibility through development, validation, and commercialisation.
- Develop and mentor team members, fostering a culture of scientific excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with external collaborators, suppliers, and strategic partners where required.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop emerging technologies, scientific innovations, and external opportunities that support future product portfolio growth and business strategy.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with external organisations, academic institutions, suppliers, and commercial collaborators to support innovation and product development objectives.
- Balance scientific, regulatory, operational, and commercial priorities to ensure the successful delivery of commercially viable products and solutions.
- Lead the formation, development, and ongoing growth of a high-performing R&D and innovation team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & BEHAVIOURS REQUIRED
- Degree in a relevant scientific discipline is essential; PhD is desirable.
- Significant experience within a regulated environment such as medical devices, diagnostics, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industries.
- Proven pipeline or product portfolio leadership experience within diagnostics, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical R&D environments, including leading multidisciplinary or cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated experience in product development, optimisation, and commercialisation.
- Experience supporting regulated product development activities, including design control, validation, verification, and regulatory submissions.
- Strong scientific data analysis, interpretation, and technical report-writing skills.
- Experience managing multiple complex projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Clinical Haematology and immunohaematology experience is desirable.
- Experience collaborating with external partners, research organisations, or commercial alliances.
- Experience evaluating emerging technologies and translating scientific innovation into commercially viable product opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience building, developing, and leading high-performing scientific or cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of the balance between scientific excellence, regulatory compliance, customer needs, and commercial objectives.
