Laboratory Technician

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

We are recruiting a Laboratory Technician to join our New Product Research (NPR) team, based at our ARC site near Penicuik, EH26 0BF. This role is a full-time, temporary position working 37.5 hours per week. Monday-Friday.

This role offers a perfect opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in a research laboratory within the diagnostics industry. The position is split between scientific research activities and laboratory maintenance, ensuring the smooth operation of our R&D workflows.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The main responsibilities will include:

• Perform routine laboratory testing following established procedures.
• Support R&D projects by conducting immunoassay-related tasks, including ELISA and other diagnostic assay techniques.
• Operate specialized laboratory equipment such as the MosaiQ Instrument and Development Manufacturing Print & Wet Processing Systems.
• Prepare and analyze samples following standard protocols.
• Assist in data collection, documentation, and reporting, ensuring full traceability and compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Collaborate with scientists and technical teams to support instrument testing, DAR submissions, and high-level summary reporting.
• Prepare reagents and buffer formulations as required.
• Manage lab stocks, including reagents, chemicals, and consumables, ensuring inventory levels are maintained.
• Place internal orders and track receipt of goods.
• Maintain lab cleanliness, including cleaning and preparation of labware and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & BEHAVIOURS REQUIRED

• HNC or HND in a Science based subject and/or appropriate experience in a lab-based environment
• Experience of working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
• Strong knowledge of biology, mathematics, and laboratory techniques.
• Experience in cleaning and carrying out laboratory maintenance activities.
